When we experience a ‘negative’ emotion, our body responds. For example, when we’re in a bad mood, we breathe faster and our heart begins to race. The key is to not control our emotions, but instead control the way we behave and react to them.
When we feel an emotion, our bodies and minds react. It’s a physiological response. This is why deep breathing helps calm the body, which in turn calms the mind.
How do you teach kids to do deep breathing correctly?

This ebook was created as a tool to help start conversations offer tools with kids when we’re going through big emotions. It’s a lifeline for both you and your child.
What are Chakras? They are the 7 major nerve ganglia in our body, rooted in the philosophies of Yoga and backed by science. These energy systems can be tapped into to help kids manage their emotions and better understand themselves.
How can you help your child with their emotions?
It’s often hard to pinpoint where a person is feeling difficult emotions, so ask them where it hurts. Once you know the source of the pain, have your child take long, deep breaths into that area. It may feel strange at first, but it can be a surprisingly effective way to release tension.
Now, ask your child to picture a colour that is related to the chakra system and the area of the body where they are feeling emotional discomfort. Different colour will correspond to different emotions.
Once your child has come to peace by sharing what they need, they’ve recalibrated their nervous system. They’ve become in-tune with their body by communicating with another person.
